Dear RSVP Directors,

I wanted to give a brief update on NARSVPD activities since our last board meeting. Summer was a busy time for us as we spent a great deal of energy on Reauthorization…more specifically the impact this legislation would have on RSVP if the provision for re-competition was included. We heard from hundreds of directors, a few didn’t think re-competition would be a big issue, but most were concerned that their sponsors would opt to not reapply for the existing grant. Throughout the summer, we asked our members to email and fax their Congressional representatives with their concerns. Your efforts have made a difference. The GIVE Act, as the reauthorization legislation is known is still in committee and has not been scheduled for a floor vote. Of course, things could change and we need to remain diligent in expressing our dislike of this legislation.

NARSVPD send out membership reminder notices in the middle of September. Your dues are vital to insure that work is being done to protect and enhance your program. Working together we can accomplish great things for RSVP, now and in the future. A good portion of your dues support our Washington Representative, Gene Sofer. Gene has done a tremendous job in advocating for RSVP. He is constantly on the hill and in the halls of congress, and when we’ve had issues with CNCS (as the former Congressional Representative for CNCS) he knows how to make things happen. Your $75 dues are a small investment to ensure the health of RSVP.

Yours in Service,
